ZOO DESIGN INC
Animal-centric, conservation-minded zoo design company

Seattle, WA
objective.
Zoo Design Inc was asked by the World Associated on Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) to design 1.) An info graphic linking visitor experience with elephant care, welfare, and wellness. 2.) The cover of their conservation magazine, volume 17.
solution.
The provided text was presented as two cards with corresponding rows distinguished with alternating transparent strips for easy reading. The customized background image of a boy pointing to an elephant emphasizes the interaction between visitors and animals while keeping the columns separate. For magazine cover, a real image was altered to simplify the details and draw attention to the interaction between zoo visitors and the animals.

objective.
The owners wanted to expand their advertising efforts to apparel. They wanted to offer t-shirts that their client base would want to wear. The goal was for the back graphic to grab attention by looking rugged, animated and somewhat abstract. The owners wanted the graphic to incorporate an excavator and some part of their logo, but they were not sure the best way to do so.
solution.
Knowing the owners wanted some elements of their logo carried out, I applied their original logo type. Their logo has a mountain above the text; to give a sense of familiarity, I placed the large dirt pile in the same location. An extreme perspective would be the most eye catching so I chose the angle with the bucket grabbing at the viewer. I learned the exact machine that they use and modeled the initial drawing around it. In line with the printer specifications, I used only 5 colors and made use of negative space. To enhance the extreme perspective, I framed the graphic leaving the machine's arm and bucket are unconfined.
