ZOO DESIGN INC
Animal-centric, conservation-minded zoo design company

Seattle, WA
objective.
Zoo Design Inc was asked by the World Associated on Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) to design 1.) An info graphic linking visitor experience with elephant care, welfare, and wellness. 2.) The cover of their conservation magazine, volume 17.
solution.
The provided text was presented as two cards with corresponding rows distinguished with alternating transparent strips for easy reading. The customized background image of a boy pointing to an elephant emphasizes the interaction between visitors and animals while keeping the columns separate. For magazine cover, a real image was altered to simplify the details and draw attention to the interaction between zoo visitors and the animals.

objective.
The client came with a strong and clear vision for what the logo and graphics should be. She came equipped with raw sketches and style examples. Aspects of the Hamsa Hand and Mehndi art were to be woven into each design. Graphics were to be free from text and therefore, elusive to the outside viewer. The most design freedom was welcomed with the Mehndi details and spirit graphic.
solution.
Following the basics in the client sketches, each design was vectorized with pronounced detail on line weight and symbology. The lines in the logo thin out toward the edges, alluding to growth and change; the shapes appear to still be growing themselves. To address the polarity that the spirit graphic alludes to, I added day and night skies within a badge-like shape to embrace the light and dark like a metal of honor.
